End Mills and End Mill Sets

An end mill is a type of milling cutter used in industrial applications that has cutting teeth at one end and on its sides. It differs from the drill bit in its use and design. While a drill bit can only cut in the axial direction (up and down), a milling bit can generally cut in all directions, though some cannot cut axially.

Most often, end mills are utilized to cut from side to side, though they are able to cut axially as well. They are used in milling applications, such as profile milling, tracer milling, face milling, and plunging.

End Mills

Mars Supply has an extensive supply of end mills from top brands, including Harvey Tool, Helical Solutions, Kyocera SGS Precision Tools, MA Ford, SECO Tools, and YG1.

In our inventory, you’ll find ball end mills, corner radius and corner chamfer end mills, corner rounding end mills, drill mills, keyway end mills, roughing and finishing end mills, square end mills, and tapered end mills in a variety of finishes, lengths, and diameters. We also carry an assortment of end mills for tool sets that can handle all your shop’s rotary cutting needs.

Ball end mills are used primarily to mill curved surfaces or create slots or packets. Corner radius end mills have rounded edges and are used to cut a specific radius size, whereas chamfer end mills are angled and can be used when radius size is not critical. Drill mills have many uses, including — naturally — drilling, as well as spotting, countersinking, and chamfering.

Keyway end mills create cuts of undersized diameter to create a tight fit between components Roughing and finishing end mills, in contrast, remove a large amount of material quickly while still leaving a smooth surface. For plunge cutting, profiling, or slotting, a square end mill is your best bet, whereas a tapered end mill is used when an attenuated channel is desired.

Types of End Mills

Your selection of end mill will vary considerably depending on the task at hand. Aside from deciding which end mill will best fit your needs — figuring out whether you need your cuts to have an exact diameter or a smooth finish, for instance — you have the choice of a variety of end mills with many different characteristics. Purchasing the right selection of end mills for a tool set, as well as an appropriate combination of end mills, is an important investment.

Our wholesale tool end mill selection contains the right combinations of end mills — at highly competitive prices — to equip your shop with the tooling you need to exceed your clients’ expectations. Our selection of high performance carbide end mills, for example, can cut through even the hardest metals and withstand the highest temperatures.

When you browse our inventory of end mills, ask yourself which functions your shop will need to perform. Will you be making only straight cuts, or will you be creating 3D shapes? Will you need to ensure a smooth finish on the first cut? Will your cuts be small and subtle or deep and bold? Or will you need an assortment that can handle a wide variety of milling applications?
